OC TRANSPO CHANGES COMING TO BARRHAVEN IN JANUARY 2020

December 13, 2019

Today OC Transpo has announced changes to bus routes coming in and out of Barrhaven. The changes will benefit many of our routes with additional buses added, hopefully eliminating overcrowding on the platform at Tunney’s during rush hour and getting residents home faster. They are as follows:

Winter 2020 Service Improvements in Ward 3

Route 75

  •          Adding new westbound trips every 5 minutes between 14:40 and 19:00 from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Baseline Station. These trips are marked as “75 Baseline.” The addition of these trips increases capacity and reduces waiting time for customers travelling to Westboro, Dominion, Lincoln Fields, Queensway, Iris, and Baseline Stations. This reduces pressure on the 270-series Connexion routes to Barrhaven, which makes more capacity available and improves reliability of those routes. This also reduces crowding at Stop G on the bus platform at Tunney’s Pasture Station.

  •          To improve connections to Gatineau, an eastbound trip from Tunney’s Pasture Station at 07:41 will be extended to end at les Terrasses de la Chaudière.

  •          To improve connections from Gatineau, two westbound trips will be extended to start at Place du Portage at 15:16 and 15:30.

Route 80

  • Added an afternoon southbound trip at 16:41 from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Barrhaven Centre to provide for increased capacity for customers (began in November).

  • Improving service reliability by adjusting the time allotted for buses to complete their trips.

Route 270

  • Afternoon trips will operate non-stop from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Fallowfield Station, and will then serve all regular stops. This change will make more capacity available for customers travelling to Barrhaven and is also expected to improve on-time performance and reduce travel time.

  • Improving service reliability by adjusting the time allotted for buses to complete their trips.

Route 271

  • Afternoon trips will operate non-stop from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Fallowfield Station, and will then serve all regular stops. This change will make more capacity available for customers travelling to Barrhaven and is also expected to improve on-time performance and reduce travel time.

  • Improving service reliability by adjusting the time allotted for buses to complete their trips.

Route 272

  • Afternoon trips will operate non-stop from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Fallowfield Station, and will then serve all regular stops. This change will make more capacity available for customers travelling to Barrhaven and is also expected to improve on-time performance and reduce travel time.

  • Adding an afternoon westbound trip at 15:12 from Tunney’s Pasture Station to provide for increased capacity for customers.

  • Improving service reliability by adjusting the time allotted for buses to complete their trips.

Route 273

  • Afternoon trips will operate non-stop from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Fallowfield Station, and will then serve all regular stops. This change will make more capacity available for customers travelling to Barrhaven and is also expected to improve on-time performance and reduce travel time.

  • Improving service reliability by adjusting the time allotted for buses to complete their trips.

Route 275

  • Afternoon trips will operate non-stop from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Fallowfield Station, and will then serve all regular stops. This change will make more capacity available for customers travelling to Barrhaven and is also expected to improve on-time performance and reduce travel time.

  • Adding four afternoon westbound trips at 15:42, 16:17, 17:15, and 17:31 from Tunney’s Pasture Station to provide customers with an earlier afternoon trip and for increased capacity for customers.

  • Improving service reliability by adjusting the time allotted for buses to complete their trips.

AUTOMATED SPEED ENFORCEMENT SIGNS TO BE INSTALLED ON LONGFIELDS

December 13, 2019

Automated speed enforcement signs will be installed soon along Longfields Drive, near École élémentaire catholique Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau, St. Mother Teresa High School and Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School. These signs serve as an early warning to motorists to slow down.

Municipalities in Ontario were recently given the authority by the provincial government to start issuing speeding tickets using automated speed cameras. One of the conditions, is that signs alerting motorists that a camera will be coming soon must be installed for 90 days wherever cameras will be located. In March, these “coming soon” signs will be replaced with new signs that warn motorists that cameras to catch speeding motorists are “in use.”

Motorists photographed speeding through the area are likely to get a ticket. Tickets will be mailed to the registered plate owner of the vehicle and will show up in the mail within about 30 days. The amount of the fine will be based on how much the driver was exceeding the posted speed limit. And because the offence occurred in a community safety zone, the fine will be doubled.

There is a very simple way to avoid getting a ticket – just don’t speed. Slow down and help keep our communities safe. Think Safety, Act Safely!

MESSAGE FROM JAN

Week of December 1 -7 2019

Good day everyone. It is nice to have a beautiful Black Friday. I know many of you share family traditions of shopping on this day. I am thankful for the weather. This will be my last weekly traffic update until the asphalt plants re-open in the spring. If there is any significant road information I can share I will via my eBlast. If you are not receiving my eBlast please send me an email and I will add your name to the list.

Unfortunately, the roundabout at the south entrance to Golflinks on Longfields will not be finished this year. It requires more asphalt. For safety purposes, staff have decided to keep it operating with stop signs. As well, the traffic lights on Cambrian at Kilbirnie and Tucana will be installed the week of December 16th. Unfortunately with all the work getting Elgin ready to re-open and installing the lights at Zibi on the Portage bridge, staff are fully committed.

With that folks, safe travels as we venture into our winter months. Let me know anything you notice. If I don't know it; I can't fix it!

I appreciate the feedback so feel free to email me at jan.harder@ottawa.ca

Greenbank Road (Hunt Club-Fallowfield)

The lights have been fully installed. Project is complete.  We have received many emails asking about details of this project.  Please click here to send an email if you have questions.

Longfields/Golflinks

Construction continues on the Longfields/Golflinks (S) roundabout.  There will continue to be lane shifts, lane reductions and intermittent lane closures on Longfields Dr and Golflinks Dr.

There is a  'no left turn' restriction for southbound traffic and a 'no right turn' restriction for northbound traffic on Longfields at this intersection with Golflinks Dr. (i.e. no turning from Longfields onto Golflinks Dr at this intersection).  Motorists are requested to use Golflinks Dr. (N) or Kilspindie Ridge.  Please see Jan's message above for an update

Tucana/Kilbirnie/Cambrian Traffic Signals

The Contractor has finished construction work related to the new traffic signal. City forces are scheduled to start the installation of above-ground traffic signals December 12th during the day and into the evening. It is anticipated that these signals are put into operation the week of December 16th (weather permitting).
