Septemer 1st - LRT Stage 2 Update





O-Train South Design Progress


The following submissions have been Issued For Construction:

  • Structures throughout the alignment including Rail Bridges at Airport Parkway, Uplands, Leitrim, Bowesville, Earl Armstrong and Lester; and,

  • Utility Relocations throughout the alignment.

The City has received construction drawings of the following project elements:

  • Airport Station;

  • Guideway for the Airport Link; and,

  • Structures throughout the alignment including High Road MUP Bridge, Limebank Road Elevated Guideway, Airport Elevated Guideway, VIA Grade Separation, Rideau River Pedestrian Bridge.

The City has received final design drawings of the following project elements:

  • Guideway for the South Extension to Limebank

  • Guideway for the existing portion of the line;

  • Landscape design for the existing line and Airport Link;

  • Dow’s Lake Tunnel, including Tunnel Ventilation; and

  • Vehicle elements, including the driver’s cab, interior layout and HVAC System.

The City has received pre final design drawings of the following project elements:

  • Walkley Yard Maintenance and Storage Facility (MSF);

  • Operational Modelling for the Overall System and the MSF;

  • Signaling and Train Control System;

  • Greenboro , Carleton, Mooney’s Bay, Gladstone and Walkley Stations; and,

  • Communication Systems designs for Greenboro and Carleton Stations and interface control documents for several subsystems on the project.

O-Train South Construction Progress

  • Rock excavation started on Gladstone Station;

  • Walkley Maintenance and Storage Facility structure construction has commenced;

  • Work has commenced at Ellwood Diamond grade separation. Caisson construction is underway;

  • Work has begun on Carleton south MUP; and,

  • Commenced work at South Keys and Bowesville Stations.

  • Bridge girder installation complete at Airport Parkway,

  • Uplands Drive, Lester Road, and Bowesville Road;

  • Airport guideway girder installation underway;

  • Guideway construction is 40% complete between South Keys Station and Limebank/Airport Link; and, Rail welding has started.


Upcoming Work

  • Trench widening to continue between Gladstone Avenue and Beech Street as well as at Carling Station;

  • Caisson excavation to continue at Ellwood Diamond Railb Bridge (grade separation with VIA Rail);

  • Walkley Maintenance and Storage Facility steel structure construction to continue;

  • Hunt Club Rail Bridge construction to commence; and,

  • Construction to begin at South Keys, Bowesville , and Uplands Stations.



O-Train East Design Update


The City is reviewing construction drawings for the following project elements:

  • Trim Station Park and Ride;

  • Jeanne D’Arc Station;

  • Roadway/Drainage Works; and

  • Utility Expansion Works.

The City is reviewing final designs for the following elements:

  • Track and Guideway Overall Design

  • Montreal Station Bridge

  • Existing Bridges

  • Traction Power System

  • Overhead Catenary System

  • Train Control & Signaling

The City has received pre final design drawings of the following project elements:

  • Public artwork.

O-Train East Construction Progress

  • Rail bridge from Blair to OR174 centre caisson and pier work in the highway median continues;

  • Culvert, utility, lane and ramp relocation work is ongoing from Blair Road to Champlain Street to facilitate widening;

  • Montreal Interchange overpass bridge work: Caisson, pier work, girder installation, pre cast panel & deck pour complete;

  • Sir George Étienne Cartier Bridge wall widening has begun with realignment of eastbound highway lanes; and,

  • Trim Road Park & Ride parking lot construction ongoing.


Upcoming Work

  • Culvert and utility work along Highway 174 to continue at Orléans Boulevard and Champlain Street;

  • Montreal Interchange overpass installation of barriers and paving of new bridges;

  • Rail bridge from Blair to OR174 centre median caisson & pier work to begin on east abutment; and,

  • Sir George Étienne Cartier Bridge temporary support wall construction.

O-Train West Design Progress


The following submissions have been Issued For Construction

  • Various Bridges;

  • Parkway Tunnel (partial)

  • Bell and Rogers Utility works along Richmond Road;

  • Wet Utilities; and,

  • Sir John A Macdonald Parkway Detour.

The City has received construction drawings of the following project elements:

  • Parkway Tunnel Overall Design;

  • Highway 417 Richmond Road Interchange;

  • Various Bridges/Structures;

  • Sir John A Macdonald Overall Design;

  • Baseline Station Bus Operator Building;

  • Roadway/Drainage Works; and,

  • Utility Expansion Works.

The City has received final design drawings of the following project elements:

  • Baseline Station;

  • Lincoln Fields Station;

  • Track and Guideway (Overall Design);

  • Existing Bridges;

  • Utility Expansion Works;

  • Traction Power System;

  • Lincoln Fields Temporary Bus Loop;

  • Overhead Catenary System; and,

  • Train Control & Signaling.

The City has received pre final design drawings of the following project elements:

  • Iris Station;

  • Dominion Station;

  • Bayshore Station;

  • Roadway/Drainage Works; and,

  • Pedestrian Bridges.

O-Train West Construction Progress


- Culvert and utility work ongoing:

  • Sir John A Macdonald Parkway;

  • Byron Linear Park;

  • Lincoln Fields;

  • Connaught Park;

  • Pinecrest Creek Pond; and,

  • Moodie Light Maintenance and Storage Facility.

  • Golden Rod Bridge support of excavation underway;

- Sir John A Macdonald detour roadwork has been completed with additional storm sewer work continuing; and,

- Byron Linear Park has closed for tunnel site preparation work.

- Lincoln Fields bus loop excavation ongoing;

- West Split Rail Bridge drill shafts are complete and crews continue to construct bridge piers;

- Iris Street culvert bridge and detour roadwork ongoing; and,

- Moodie Light Maintenance and Storage Facility culvert bridge caisson work is complete, abutment and drainage work continues.


Upcoming Work

  • Support of excavation installation along Byron LinearPark for cut and cover tunnel work;

  • Lincoln Fields rail bridge pier cap installation & retainingwall of the north abutment;

  • Preparations for construction of a temporary hauling road construction at Queensview Station;

  • Utility protection work at Pinecrest Road overpass and highway ramp work;

  • Iris traffic realignment for continued culvert construction;and,

  • Watermain relocation work at Baseline & Cobden, and

  • Iris & Navaho.

Status Update: Stage 2 Alstom Citadis Vehicles

  • Of the 38 Stage 2 Alstom Citadis Vehicles:

  • 19 vehicles are awaiting production;

  • 12 vehicles in production;

  • 2 vehicles are undergoing testing;

  • 1 vehicles are in acceptance; and,

  • 4 vehicles have been accepted;

Stage 2 Stadler FLIRT Vehicles

  • Stadler FLIRT vehicles are being designed and manufactured in Switzerland;

  • Vehicle design is progressing on the onboard systems, seating layouts, design and specification for integration of various onboard systems, exterior paint design (livery) and other system designs; and,

  • Manufacturing to begin in late 2020.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • As a result of the intensification of COVID 19 in mid March, all in person public meetings transitioned to digital formats.

  • Staff continue to engage with Councillors and community stakeholders as work progresses by s haring information through digital tools such as the project website, newsletter and quarterly progress videos.
