November 19th - O-Train Line 1 Temporary Closures November 22nd & 29th

This memo is to advise that the Rideau Transit Group (RTG) has requested access to O-Train Line 1 to complete additional work to improve system performance.

The City has granted RTG permission to access Line 1 in order to continue and expedite the work associated with switch heater upgrades across the alignment, necessitating the following temporary closures:

· On Sunday, November 22 Line 1 will be partially closed, with trains operating between Tunney’s Pasture and Hurdman Stations, and frequent R1 replacement bus service operating between Hurdman and Blair Stations, with full service resuming on Monday November 23; and,

· On Sunday, November 29 Line 1 will be completely closed and R1 bus service will be operating frequently along the entire alignment. Light rail service will resume at all Line 1 stations Monday, November 30.

During the temporary closures, work will be undertaken to upgrade the switch heaters. As outlined at the October and November Transit Commission meetings, the switch heater locations are being upgraded to help increase the functionality of the switches during the winter season. The electrical upgrades have been completed on the locations in the west. The remaining locations in the east are being upgraded with gas heaters. In order to complete this work, access is required to portions of the line to install the gas line.

In addition to the switch heater upgrades, work will continue on the track and infrastructure associated with the rectification plan as well as ongoing maintenance. Customers will see a variety of high-rail track equipment working in various locations on the track, undertaking inspections and adjustments.

On November 22, the station entrance grilles and doors will be open from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Hurdman Station but will be closed at Tremblay Station, St-Laurent Station, and Cyrville Station, where customers will have access to R1 bus stops outside the station entrances. On Sunday, November 29, the station entrance grilles and doors at most Line 1 stations will be closed and customers will only have access to R1 bus stops. On both days, the entrance grilles and doors at Blair Station will be open to facilitate customer vertical movement to R1 bus service from the local platforms, the pedestrian bridge and Gloucester Centre. Staff will be present at Line 1 stations to help direct customers.

Details will be communicated to customers through various channels, including a PSA, customer alerts, social media updates, signage at Line 1 stations, and octranspo.com. Customers can visit octranspo.com for travel planning assistance or call 613-741-4390. Schedules are available by calling 613-560-1000 or texting 560560 plus the bus stop number.

Staff continue to work collaboratively with RTG to improve service on Line 1 for customers. An update to Council will be provided should RTG be granted access for any future work.
