April 14th - Construction at Highway 416 interchange at West Hunt Club Rd

Highway 416 / West Hunt Club Road Interchange Ramps and Intersections Improvements / Signal Installation at Cedarview Road and Ramp Terminals


This notice is to advise you that Aecon Construction Ontario East Ltd was awarded MTO Contract 2020-4018 to provide improvement to the Highway 416 / West Hunt Club Road interchange ramps, and intersection improvements at Cedarview Road and ramp terminals.


As construction activities progress, additional notices will be distributed throughout the

duration of the project to advise you of progress and upcoming work.


Who: The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, has hired the contractor, Aecon Construction Ontario East to complete the work.


When: Construction activities are scheduled to begin on April 15th, 2021 with placement of construction zone signage followed by electrical installations on Cedarview Road. Overnight lane / ramp closures are scheduled to begin on May 17th, 2021. The construction will be staged over this time, work areas will change as operations are initiated and completed. This contract has a completion date of June 11th, 2021.


Where:

Construction will occur at the following locations:

  • Highway 416 / West Hunt Club Interchange (All ramps)

  • West Hunt Club / Cedarview intersection

  • Cedarview Road between West Hunt Club / Bruin Road

What:

The Contract includes the following work:

Cedarview Road

  • New traffic signals to be installed on Cedarview at the intersection with

the Highway 416 Northbound on and off ramps, with activation date

scheduled for end of May 2021.

  • Underground electrical work and pole footings on the east side of the road across from the Highway 416 Northbound on and off ramps as well as milling, paving, line painting, and signage on Cedarview Road from West Hunt Club Road to 625m northerly.

  • Asphalt repairs: milling, paving, line painting and signage on all five interchange ramps.

Shoulder, Lane, and Road Closures

To complete the work in a manner that is safe to the travelling public and site personnel, much of the construction will be completed within shoulder, lane, and full road closures that will be set-up in accordance with OTM Book 7. Highway 416 will be reduced to 80km/h when construction activities are being performed.


Additionally, there will be many nightly ramp closures at the Highway 416 / West Hunt Club

interchange to facilitate the electrical work, pole footing installation, milling, paving, line painting, and signage operations. It is anticipated that some of these closures will be in effect as early as mid-May 2021. It is estimated that the paving operation will take roughly three weeks to complete.


As the project progresses, these dates will be evaluated, and advanced notice of the closures will be provided to the affected agencies and emergency services.


Night Work

If required, the following work will be completed at night (23:00 to 5:00):

  • Full closure of Cedarview Road from West Hunt Club Road to Bruin Road is permitted for a maximum of six (6) consecutive nights during which time the Highway 416 Northbound on and off ramps will also be closed to facilitate milling and paving operations.

  • The right-turn lane will be closed, for a maximum of 6 consecutive nights, during the full closure of Cedarview Road from West Hunt Club Road to Bruin Road to facilitate milling and paving operations.

Construction Disruptions

Aecon will be assuming full responsibility for the construction work area until the Contract is

completed in its entirety. Aecon will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the

everyday operation of your services, but as you can appreciate, there may be some

inconvenience while the work, such as delays when travelling through the construction zone, noise, dust and vibration. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation. Every effort will be made to reduce the duration of the construction impacts on your community.
